This seems like a great way to have a classroom blog. I think it's really important to make sure that your blog is safe for students and parents to use. There can be a lot of people who are trying to hurt others online. It is important for the teacher to take responsibility for those he/she is asking to respond to his/her blog.

Amanda Gossage said...

This seems like it could be very helpful to teachers, parents, and students. You can decide if you want it to be restricted to your classroom only or parents only or for the public to see. It could also be a helpful tool for your classroom because it has tools such as turning in assignments online.

Brooke Caskey said...

This is a great tool to use to communicate with parents as well as students. Like you said it is important for it to be a safe website that is only accessible to people that you want to see it.

Kim said...

I really liked this site! It's great that it is kid friendly but teachers can still access the site to make sure that nothing inappropriate is being posted. It's also still linked to the school so it will be easy for teachers to incorporate. It could be a good discussion forum for students to use to communicate about a lesson or upcoming events.

Amanda said...

I really like the idea of having a classroom blog. I think it easy and safe for parents and students to use. I think the blog is an excellent way for parents to voice comments, concerns, and questions. The blog is a great way for teachers to communicate with the parents on information regarding classroom information.

Cara Adcock said...

I can't wait to get my classroom blog going. I think it would be a great idea to let the students choose subjects to discuss, and also for parents to communicate with me. I know from experience parents can have many questions about different things throughout the year. I think it could be a very helpful tool in communicating and keeping the doors open for the parent/teacher relationship.

This site seems like a great way to create your classroom blog. It makes it safe for the students, and teacher. I am looking forward to being able to use all these tools one day when I get into teaching! How neat!

This is a great tool for teachers, parents and students. As teachers, we need ways to communicate with parents and keep them up to date on our classroom activities. I like the fact that the site can be secured in order to restrict access to those individuals who actually need the information. Parents need a way to communicate with the teachers in an efficient manner. Blogging provides a channel for communication that is nonthreatening to everyone involved if handled properly. Blogs may be accessed 24/7 by either party.

I think it would be great tool for teachers and parents.Parents can commuicate from anywhere. I would want to be sure it was safe for the students.I did not realize how easy it is to create a blog.

This is a great way to have immediate contact with the teacher and parents. I remember when I was young at times needing homework help and what not and I think this would be a great way to keep in touch. It would also eliminate the barrier between parents and teachers and give them another way to talk about their different ideas in a more convenient way, they could also see the insight of the other parents.

Miss T said...

What a great way for parents, students and teacher's to keep in touch. Not only is it more convenient for all but it also allows students even more practice with the ever changing technology. I am blown away by all the amazing advances in technology and can't wait to see what happens next.

I think this is a great idea! It is very organized and it seems to be parent and student friendly. I like that you can turn in assignments online and that you can even monitor who can access the site.

I agree this is really a perfect way for teachers and students to interact safely. Safety is a really big issue, especially when students are involved. I think this is a great way for parents to get involved also.

This is such a great idea!! It definitly could be helpful to both students and teachers! It is a connection with other countries! I think it is wonderful assest to any classroom. Great blogging website!

I think this is a great tool to use but it would not be the main tool for teaching. I'm sure a sports writer or journalist for the school could benefit more from blogging.

I think that this is a great way to integrate technology in the classroom in a safe and kid friendly way. The appearance really applies to a student audience. I think that teachers could really control how safe the blog would be and students would enjoy doing something like this!

Mrs. Manivong's Kindergarten Class said...

I for one really enjoyed this class. I did not realize how much I liked using technology and because of my new interest I absolutely know students will too. This type of interaction is fun and beneficial in soo mnay ways. I absolutely love the opportunity to talk to someone 6,000 mile away. Even as a teacher, communicating with another eductor from China could give him/her new insight. Overall ePals seems like a cool and fun way to get students, parents, and teachers involved.

Zach Hudson said...

I really like this blog. It looks very organized and safe for school children to explore. It really keeps your interest when you look at it and it makes you want to keep reading

ePals looks like a wonderful website for students, parents, and teachers. This is a great tool to help with communication between students and teachers, and or parents and teachers. I think it is important for the parents to be involved in what their child is learning so they can help engage in the child's learning. This is a great way of helping parents get involved!

I like the idea of having a blog for a classroom. I saw a presentation about this at the Literacy across the Curriculum workshop and it seems like an easy and fun way to integrate technology into the classroom. The blogger format is pretty simple to use and would be easy for students to learn.

I liked the wesite because it has features that are help ensure students' safety and teachers can monitor their students' participation. I think it is also a good way for teachers to communicate to parents safely and also get parents' opinion on issues.

Miss Flowers said...

I like the idea of a blog because it is just one more way for parents to stay connected to their childs education. I think that it is also very important to realize that parents are just as busy with work as we are and I know that I will try to take advantage of any tool that allows them to acess information in a safe and productive way!

This seems like a great site because it allows the teachers/parents/students to all interact on a secure website. I think that I would use this site mainly for interacting with the parents of my students and keeping them updated on certain events, homework assignments, and what we have been learning in the classroom. It would also be an easy way for the parents to feel involved by being able to communicate their questions and concerns on a safe site.

I really liked this website! I felt as thought it had some really great ideas on it. One of my favorite parts were the links to other teacher blogs. Some of those blogs had posting about their teacher's overseas travels. This could be a great teaching tool for social studies. If I were to have a classroom blog, I would definately use it to post weekly homework assignments for families to access after school hours. I also feel strongly about limiting blog access to the parents and families of students in my class.

Malia Maxwell said...

I think that it is extremely important to keep our students safe in the classroom and I feel that this tool will definetly do this! I think this is a great way to communicate with parents. It is a lot quicker than waiting for parents to return calls. It also would be a creative way to communicate with students too!

This is a great way to have a classroom blog. Safety for the students online is very important. It is a great way for the teacher to keep the blog appropriate and safe for the kids. I like that it has links to school so it would make it east to use in the classroom. It would be a great way to have the students leave feedback on lessons or even give you ideas for future lessons.

I think blogging is a great opportunity to expand parent teacher relations. By having a blog the teacher can tell about their selves, the student, and give the parent or guardian more insight into the classroom and student learning. Also the parent can make comments or give input to the teacher without having to make a special trip to the school.

Honky said...

I realize how important it is to communicate with parents and students. This is a great tool to reach out to parents, students, and other teachers. The variety of options available for accessibility allow you to limit who can access your blog, providing you with the ability to limit viewing to students and parents.

I like the idea of having a new way for parents and teachers to communicate with each. I can post pictures of field trips for the parents to look at without having to make copies for everyone. But we need to be aware of what we put on the blog and who can view it.

Jessica Lauderdale said...

This is a great way for children to communicate with each other through the classroom and through the rest of the world. I'd love to use Epal blogger because it can be monitored on who sees it and what is being published. I love that you can turn assignments as blogs. I really like that ideal as well. I really want to incorporate blogging into my classroom because of the fact that children are more tech savvy than we could ever imagine. I believe blogging opens doors to new opportunities and helps the children express what they feel as well.

This is a great idea to be incorporated into the classroom. All school officials along with parents and students can be involved into the classroom environment. The integration of technology into the classroom is a great idea. However, ti must be monitored.

I think that having epals is wonderful idea! I know that when I was in Elementary school having a pen pal was the greatest thing! I looked forward to getting that letter and learning more about this person on the other side of the country. By using epals and the internet students now have the opportunity and ability to communicate instantly with other students from all over. No more waiting on sail mail! I think I will definately look into having epals in my classroom.

I really like how this blog site talks about the different benefits of blogging. Three things that stood out to me were the skills development, the collaborative learning anywhere and parental involvement, not to mention the fact that these types of sites can keep students safe from inappropriate material and predators, but still allow them to use technology.

Becca Stephenson said...

Dr. Alexander:
I think this could be a very interesting tool, but I'm not sure it would be helpful to use with the age of children I will be working with (Preschool Special Ed). However, I do think it could be a great way to communicate with parents. I could save some trees instead of sending home the "Ye Olde" What We Did Today sheet. They could just check out the blog...as long as the parents have internet access.

I really enjoyed seeing the different examples of safe blogging spaces. I want to incorporate blogging into my classroom, but wasn't sure how to do it safely and correctly, but after seeing the examples I have a better idea of what to do.

I love this! I think blogging is an important tool that we as teachers must learn to utilize. Encouraging students to blog is a way to move writing from student-to-teacher communication to whole-world communication; but on the flip side, must protect students from the dangers of the Internet. That's why safe sites like these, with customizable privacy settings, are all important. I am also excited about the prospect of connecting with students/bloggers from different cultures. These are two of my favorite subjects: increasing literacy and writing proficiency, and cultural connections.

I like the idea that there are safe blogging sites out there to use in my classroom. I have found that often times teachers steer clear of doing activities and exposing students to technology for fear of all the inappropriate content on the web. With the availability to sites such as this one, it makes it easier for teachers to feel comfortable letting students use what resources are available to them. I also think that it is a great way to keep parents informed about what's going on in their child's classroom and what assignments are due!

I really think blogging is a great idea. It not only enhances group or class discussions but it also allows each student to express themselves freely in a positive safe and creative learning environment. This won’t only be great for students and teacher but it is also an easy way to communicate and share information with the parents. Even though I am early childhood I believe I can definitely put blogging to good use.

This seems to be a very creative and useful way to have a classroom blog. We need to make the internet as safe as possible for our students and user friendly enough for students as well as parents. As future teachers we need to be cautious of who is able to comment to our posting to keep the safety of our studets safe.

I think this is a great way to incorporate bogging into the classroom. I feel that it will give students a way to interact with one another in a safe way inside and out of the classroom. I love that creating a blog is so easy...anyone can do it!

Mr. Marshall said...

This would be a good way to allow your students to help each other with homework problems they are having trouble with. Also the teacher would be able to monitor that just one student was doing all of the work and just passing the answers to the rest of the class. Last the teacher could see what problems the students were having trouble with and come up with a different way to teach it the next day since it did not work for some of the students.

I think that having a blog for your classroom is a great way to stay in touch with your students, parents, and other teachers. It is very easy to do and it allows you to communicate with others very easily. I really think that it is helpful when trying to stay in touch with the parents of your students because it allows them to voice concerns, questions, or comments. This helps the parents feel like they are involved and know what is going on in the classroom. One thing that is very important when creating a blog, is deciding who to allow see it. It is very important to keep your students and parents safe when using a blog, so using restrictions will help keep them safe.

This is a great took for students, teachers, and parents alike. What a great way for schools/classrooms and homes to connect and keep in touch. I also liked that this website was created for a school by a school, that usually means that there were many factors taken into consideration when this was created.

Ms. Campbell's 2nd Grade Class said...

I have to say this is the first time I have ever left a message on a blog. I think that the use of blogs would be helpful to teachers and parents. Teachers can keep parents informed about what is going on in the classroom with the use of a blog. For example I have to ask my sons teacher about the activites at school because my son never brings home notes or keeps me informed about what is happening at school. If his teacher had a blog I could check the blog to keep me updated on classroom activities.
As a future teacher I think I will try to use a blog or a website for my classroom. I think parents will like visiting the blog or website to see what is going on at school.

I think blogging is a very creative and exciting tool to incorporate in the classroom. It is a great way for students to communicate with classmates and teachers. This type of learning can still seem "fun" to students. I do not support requiring students to blog at home for assignments because not everyone has a computer at home. I really enjoy blogging and I will share this tool with my students as well!

Rachel Prater said...

Blogging is a great communication tool because it is a quick way to keep parents informed. I think parents like it also because they can see when the info was posted, so they know it is updated frequently. For my classroom, I would want only the parents of my students to have access to our blog. That way the information is protected.
