Blogging....What do you think?

Check out some of the blog links and tell me what you think? Do you see yourself using a blog in the classroom? If so, how? What are your thoughts?

I think blogging can be a good and a bad thing. I think within education, it can be a good resource to stay in touch with parents and other fellow teachers. When used in this way, blogging can be of great help and allow for further education within our field. I do not really support people blogging on sites such as myspace and other social sites. More often than not, people are just posting personal information about themselves for the world to see and I do not think it is necessary of relevant.

Wow, I never thought blogging for a classroom could be so interesting and interactive! Mrs. Cassidy's class is very inspiring. One way that students learn the best is through experiences and being able to connect with other countries online is a prime example. Blogging is something I will consider when I begin teaching; I feel that it will help keep everyone updated on what we are doing and provide a place for students and parents to get involved and express their thoughts. Safety is an issue to me as is with classroom websites. I don't like the idea of putting pictures or names of students on the internet. Too risky!

I never really thought much about blogging for the class, until this year when my 5th grader came home and told me that they have a class blog page and he was very excited about it.
The kids are happy to have a safe place the parents are ok with them talking on and they can get extra insight from their teacher when they have an assignment question.
I'm not sure how well blogs would work in the younger grades, but I do see the advantages it would have for the higher grades.

This idea of blogging in the classroom really never crossed my mind. Not only would the blog connect the teacher to the parents, it would also build parent/parent relationships. I love the fact that you can place instructional videos onto the blog. I can see this being useful for homework help, classroom management and the advance in technology. Parents would feel more connected to the classroom. I think that is what a great deal of classrooms lack. We need to have support from the parents in order to push the students. This is a great way to keep them involved in every aspect of the class.

Bloggin in the classroom has never crossed my mind. However, I have never really been into the whole "blogging" thing, until recently. A good friend of mine is a first year teacher. So, she decided to start a blog about all of her experiences. I have enjoyed reading and commenting to her blog so much. It has given me alot of great insight into the trials and tribulations of a first year teacher, and what I can expect. I think that blogging in the classroom would be a great idea. However, I do think that with children, it would be hard to make sure that they are staying on topic and not posting anything too personal. If I (or anyone else) could find a way to help prevent or monitor the situation, I think that it would be a great tool for students, teachers, and parents.

I would have never thought to use a blog in my classroom. I didnt think that it would even be an option, especially because I want to teach younger grades. Now that I have learned so much about this, as long as my students can type, then they are capable of blogging. I could even have homework on here which is such a great tool. It is something different and will not be that same ole' borning thing.

I never even would have even considered using blogging within the classroom until now. I think it could be a great way for students get interact and respond to journals, articles, and their peers thoughts. On the other hand, I don't think it is a good thing for students to have their information open to the public, but if there is a way to make strictly classroom related I am all for it!

I never put much though into blogging until today. Although I like the idea of having a blog, I still would prefer to spend most of my time communicating with parents through the class webpage. If I did decide to use a blog, I would only allow access to my current students and families and school administration. For safety reasons, I do not like the idea of anyone being able to view my blog.

Blogging is a great resource to use in the classroom. It gives parents a way to communiate with the teacher. The teacher can post what is going on at school and get feed back on what parents think. But I think the blog website should only be open to certain people. I am not really sure if that many people would use it yet but since the world is turning into a computer world then more people might start to use blogging. I would have never thought of using this as a teacher to communiate with people.

I think blogging is definitely cool and on the cutting edge of technology if you will. What better way to update family members who live across the globe (as in my case) and have them contribute to your growing family! In the classroom, what better way to show off your students' talent and achievements to their peers and parents. I think this is just all around great. Of course with every advance in technology there will be negatives, but in my opinion, it's just finding ways to work through the negatives that matters most.

I also think that blogging can be both a good and bad thing. I believe that it would be a great way to communicate with parents and showcase student work but you also have to be very careful about what kind of information you release because everyone can see it and respond publicly in any way they choose. I probably will use a blog specifically for parental communication and link it to the class web site.

Blogging is a completely new thing to me. I have always heard of it but never really knew what it was until now. I think this is another great resource to use in order to communicate, share information, etc. I have several friends that have them to communicate and share their lives with others, just like a myspace, facebook account etc. The nice thing about blogging is that it allows you to write more, share thoughts/feelings and such verses just loading pictures and short information. I never would have thought of using this resource in the classroom although I do think it a good idea and could be helpful. Although, I do think it is important to limit the viewers of a class sight to simply the parents, staff, etc. I am looking forward to learning more about blogging and utilizing it in the future!

This is the first time I've considered blogging in the classroom. It seems like an overall good idea, but I have never seen it done before. Blogging seems like great communication tools for the teacher to communicate with the parents and students. There are a few things that concern me though. The first thing is safety. I'm not sure how safe it would be for students to post blogs on their own. They might unknowingly post too much personal information and this could be dangerous. Also, I would be afraid that either the parents or the student might post something inappropriate.
If the teacher can monitor postings made my students, however, and the parents blog postings are private, then I think it could be a useful tool.

Blogging is a great tool to bring into the classroom. It can allow students to interact with each other, with the teacher, or even with parents. Teachers can ask questions and get student's feedback that they may have been too shy to say in the classroom. It also allows students and parents to keep up-to-date in the classroom, if the teacher keeps the information current. It's just another method used to build a connection between individuals. I will definitely consider using blogging in my classroom.

I think blogs can be a good class tool. The younger grades would be harder though. I like the idea of having e-pals from other continents. Blogs can be used in a lot of ways. When students have questions about homework or a teacher can post questions to get responses. teachers do have to make sure to have time in class to let students post if they do not have internet access.

I've never considered blogging in the classroom. I have never really been into blogging, personally though. I guess it could be a good thing if it was used as a communication tool for parents. Although, as a parent, I'm too busy with homework, packing lunches and everything else to check a blog about school issues. My childs school uses an agenda for all info related to the week and month. But I guess some people would find it useful. When I start teaching I will definitley have a classroom web page and maybe have a link to a blog if someone wants to access it.

I really like the idea of using blogs in classrooms. I would have loved if my teachers had used this when I was in school. I do think that blogging can be beneficial, especially if the teacher knows how to use it. I could see problems if the teacher does not familiarize his/herself with how they work. I think the students would learn so much from blogging. It teaches technology, and promotes writing (as long as the teacher requires students to post using correct spelling and grammer). Also it a great way to get feedback from students and parents. I think all teachers should consider adding a blog to their curriculum.

I definitly will look into using a blogging tool when I get into teaching, and get my classroom!

I think blogging can definitely help teachers, parents, and students. I have never thought about blogging before even though all my friends do on Myspace. I guess I never really thought that it could be a helpful technological tool for teachers to communicate with parents or other teachers. I believe that only certain people should be able to access the blogs because bad things could happen if the wrong people find too much information about a student, or anyone for that matter.

Angela Casey said...

I think blogging is a great resource but can be abused or used inappropriately. It is good to use to keep parents and students update and get feedback from them but you have to be careful on what topics you choose. Also, when teaching your students about blogging you must advise them not to use blogging all the time especially on certain websites such as myspace. Never put personal information on websites because it wil make it easier for predators to track you down. Students need to know the dangers of blogging and know how to do it safely. I may use blogging in my classroom but not very often.

Blogging is very similar to class discussions. It makes it easier to view questions classmates might have asked. Collaboration is the key to education, and blogging exposes students to collaboration. The more access a student has to information regarding assignments, the more likely they are to understand the task at hand. I feel this would be a very effective tool in the classroom, because it allows discussion to take place among peers and teachers.

Brittney said...

I have never really blogged before so before this I never thought about using it in the classroom. I think there are ups and downs to blogging. It is a good way to communicate but it could be somewhat dangerous since it is all online. It would not be good if any of my classroom information got into the hands of the wrong person. As long as you can keep the blog restricted securely I think it would be alright to use for some things as long as we are all very careful because safety is the most important thing.

Dana Perkins said...

I personally am not a big blogger. I have a hard time just spewing out my thoughts and feelings for the world to see. I am most likely not going to use blogging for my classroom use unless I can find a way to make sure everything can be completely private and only viewed by myself and my students. I do, however, like the idea on blogging my experiences as a teacher. I plan on following the lead of the teacher we talked about in class and blog about my experiences as a new special education teacher with the hopes of helping others like me. I am hoping to start when I start my student teaching. We shall see. =)

I think blogging is a really good idea, if it is used in the correct way. I read seven things you should know about blogging and I think it is a great way to include technology amongst students. It also will gain their attention, and make the information they are learning easier to take in, especially if it is presented in a fun way... such as blogging. It also promotes good communication between students.

Not until this class was I introduced to google blogging. I have used many different blogs before and its never crossed my mind to use blogging in a classroom. I believe it is a great source for parents, teachers and students. It is immediate feedback and that is very useful to students. The safety of the site would be my only concern. What all can be posted and can anyone post? If the blog can be addressed to only certain individual then it is a great source. If not I believe parents and teachers need to be aware of the information that is being blogged.

I didn't think blogging would be fun and easy for me but I have decided that it was!:)

I agree with Miss Kandice that blogging could be beneficial in many different aspects of learning. I think the teacher should require the students to use proper grammar and punctuation in order to let them practice for their work. I would love to have a blog for my classroom when I begin teaching because it is a great way to allow students to communicate with each other and the teacher outside of the classroom. This is definitely something I will consider doing for my class.

I prefer blogging to the use of wiki, as it seems to provide more controls built into the construction. I am really excited about the blog sites that are designed especially for schools. What a wonderful collaborative learning environment! I particularly enjoyed visiting epals.com, and have even added their link to my personal teaching resource archive for future use. I can see me using blog links in the classroom to inform parents and encourage parent/child extended learning opportunities. I feel this is a wonderful tool to strengthen parent/teacher partnerships. There are endless possibilities for blogging in the classroom, including reflective writing prompts and collaborative work with students in other locations. I am almost overwhelmed when thinking about how excited my future students will be to work with other students on the same project from the other side of the world!

I have to be honest, i've never done or participated in a blog until we were assinged to make one of our own. I had heard of blogs but I never knew what it was all about. I always thought blogs were something people do to express their feelings and it wasn't really for me. But after this assiginment of creating my own blog I started to change my mind. Having a classroom blog can be a great way of getting your students to well...express their feelings on a specific topic. This can be very helpful for a teacher when he/she is putting together their lessons. Also blogs can be another way for teachers and parents to stay connected. Parent involment is a big thing for me. So although I am not very familiar with blogs, I do believe it would be great to use in the classroom.

Blogging is new to me as far as integrating it into the classroom. I've never created or responded to a blog while in grade school. Now tjhat i have become familiar with blogging i think it would be a very intresting tool to use in the classroom. If i introduce a new rule, theme for the classroom, or a new lesson opening up a blogg would be a great way to get students feed back. I can also open a blog for parents to make comments or expose any ideas they may have for me or students. Students may also want to create a blog for other students or teachers to respond to. As i become more comfortable with blogging i'm sure i will think of many othr ways to use it in the classroom. It's fun and intresting!!

I like the idea of a classroom blog to discuss current events, homework questions, debatable issues, etc. If the blog is only open to students in the class, and if the blog is monitored closely (!!) by the teacher, this could be a writing tool that has some impact for a student who otherwise would be uninterested in writing. As teachers, we have to exploit all resources available to engage students in whatever we are teaching. Not using blogs, which are current, relevant, and interesting to students, would almost be negligent. There are certainly other ways to teach writing, but why not show students how writing can apply to their lives after book reports?

I would post relevant information to them, ask for their opinions, and give them the opportunity to ask any questions. I would also put features on the blog that students would be able to enjoy, also. As long as this tool is used properly it can be very useful.

I really enjoyed every project we did in this class, but the blog is a great communication tool. I think it would be wonderful for parent/teacher communication. It would have its downfalls, though. Every parent would be able to see the communication between the tacher and each parent, so this could be a classoom communication tool or a group tool. I see this as a great aspect for my future in the classroom.

For educational purposes Blogging can be useful. It can allow for parents and students to stay in touch with teachers. It also allows for teachers to update parents and students as one. I think it can be beneficial if used properly, but it should not be the only or the main choice of communication between teachers and parents or students.

Well, I can't say that I'll use blogging outside of this class, but it is good to learn how to do it. I know a lot of people that blog to get their ideas out in the open. I'm a little more private myself. I can't imagine that every parent will know how to get onto a blog site and see what I've written, so I'll probably stick to sending out newsletters the old fashioned way.

I think that blogging can be very beneficial in a classroom, especially with the older elementary level students and middle school age students. It would give them opportunities to post their thoughts and ideas about projects and assignments. If I was to use a blog in my classroom, I would make sure that the students had a specific purpose for their posts as well as having a protected or locked blog so only other members of the class and the teacher could view and comment on the blog. I think it would take a lot of trial and error to use blogs, but I think after a little tweeking it could be very useful.

I like blogging for adults. It is a great way to get things off your mind without actually having to say it. For kids though, I am not sure it is really appropriate. Kids can be mean sometimes and don't understand that what they say may hurt someone's feelings. It can also be dangerous if they tend to bully or if the public got ahold of what they said or their information. Blogging just kind of puts you out there on the web for anyone to pick you up, so to speak. I have had a friend that had a private blog and some how someone got into it and make it public and she had alot of people mad at her, everything she said was never ment for people to see, just for her own stress relief. I personally don't like to blog.

You can make your blog as open or as closed off to the world as you want too. I like that feature a lot! I think I will use blogs in my classroom but I think it will be strictly for keeping the parents informed. They can comment on something if they have a question and then I will not have to answer that same question to every parent because other parents will be able to see it.

I think blogging in a great way of communicating with your parents. Most parents today have access to a computer and would find it convienent to look on a blog to get updates of what is going on in the classroom. This would be benefitial to parent of older students who always seem to loose papers that need to go home. This would cut down on the need for photocopies that only fill up the garbage can. Blogging would help create a classroom community because everyone (teacher, parents, and students) could share their opinions, pictures, and questions with each other. If the teacher could not answer the question maybe a parent could help out. We live in a world where people seldom know their neighbors and I think this is a great way for people to get to know each other through common bond they have with their child's classroom.

I think that blogging can be a good thing, but it would not be my first pick for a way to incorporate technology in the classroom. I think it is a great way to let teachers share what is going on in the classroom with other teachers, parents, and the community. I also think it can be a good way for teachers to share ideas with other teachers. I don't think it is the best way to communicate this information, though. I really liked the website and I think I would share my opinions and ideas on it before this. The website has many more elements and effects on it by just going on one site.

I think blogging can be great for the classroom if used correctly. This can allow students or parents the opportunity to see what is going on in the classroom and give feedback to the posting. This is an interactive activity for students if you had them set one up, depending on the age. Younger students blogging would really only be appropriate for the teacher and parents to use back and forth. For older children they will be able to be involved with the blog and post things on their own. You as the teacher have to make sure that the blog is only available for your classroom and not outside of your classroom because this could start problems. You don't want other people to be able to view and make comments on the blog.

Ms. Stacey said...

After reading several links about blogging and then trying to create one myself I would say this is not my most favorite way to use technology in the classroom. I preferred the classroom website's organization of the information to the blogging. However I did like looking at the elementary classroom blog and felt the teacher's use of adding a video and providing each child with their own blog links to post comments about classroom activities would be an exciting and engaging use of technology for students. I think they would really enjoy using it and viewing what their peers are writing or talking about.
On the reluctant bloggers link I agreed with how they stated anything "new" that you try to do or learn how to do is going to take time. The more you do it the better you will get at doing it or using it. So I think eventually with more use this could be one form of technology I could grow to appreciate and use more in the classroom.

I think blogging in the classroom is a great idea, as long as the teacher sets up the dialogue. Children can be very creative with their own topics, and a teacher would not want an inappropriate topic floating around. Some of the blogs for classrooms look really exciting. I think students would be interested in using the blog for multiple purposes. Using a blog in the classroom is a creative way to get the students involved!

I have never thought about blogging for the classroom. It is a great way to put a certain topic out there and have the students comment and discuss the topic. After seeing the different ways that blogs can be used in the classroom for a more interactive environment, I now feel more comfortable using blogs for my classroom one day. I think that blogging would work better in the higher grades, but it may be introduced in the lower grades. It can also be password protected, which provides safety for the students.

I think blogging can be a great way to connect families to the classroom. Many students have families that are very busy and have trouble keeping up with papers and upcoming events. Blogs allow parents to keep up with events and communicate with parents without being in physical contact. Also, I think that using blogs makes it easy for parents to connect throughout the day because many parents have jobs that allow them to be on the computer.

Leila said...

I do feel that blogging can be really useful, even for me wanting to teach lower elementary. When the students are just starting to write their own sentences, most children already have a fair understanding of how to turn a computer on and how to get to a website that they like. An example would be the children that I babysit collect these stuffed animals called webkinz, and each animal comes with its own code. They know how to log on to the website and enter the codes and then they can play games with their animals online with other 5 year olds.
This example of young children coming into a classroom setting with prior knowledge of typing and the functions of computers only proves to me more that the use of technology is vital in the classroom. A student who is struggeling with handwriting could excel in blogging. Students can write about content which interests them. They can write to one another in a contolled classroom atmosphere. Also, giving the students the understanding of how to blog, would allow them and their parents to better manage their school success if there was a classroom blog with information regarding assignments or upcoming opportunities.
Although there is the risk that a student may put something inappropriate on the blog page, that is not technologies fault. That is a window of opportunity for a valuable lesson to show how helpful and how hurtful we can be when using the internet inappropriately. You will be able to go over safety issues with all students prior to their development of blogs, and should obtain the permission of parents before taking their child to blog sites.
Overall, I see this as a great opportunity and tool for students' future success and open interaction between student, parent and teacher!

I believe that is a great way to keep in touch with some parents, yet not all off them. I believe it's great that parents can make comments, but it is something that the teacher needs to monitor. Overall blogging in the classroom seems to be a great idea!

A teacher can ask students what they think about a particular assignment, or she could post follow-up questions. For example, I posted a question about the student's favorite book. I did this not necessarily for an assignment but as a way to get to know the students a little better. Maybe the parents would post as well. I do see the blogging aspect as a little difficult for younger children, but they would enjoy seeing videos and their work on display. At the same time, I think a web-page would work best for those types of things. I especially liked Mrs. Cassidy's blog. Of course, guidelines and safe practices have to be used. Having the students sign a "contract" is a good idea. However, I think that the blog should not be used as the only source of information. I think that a class web-page works best to share important dates and other classroom information. I am so glad that I took this class. I have learned a wealth of information that I will most definitely use in my classroom. Thank you, Dr. A!

This was my first experience using a blog and I think it could be very helpful in creating constant communication with parents and also for parents to communicate with other parents of the classroom. I like all of the elements you can use. I think its a great way to get feedback and it can be done in your own time at your leisure and same for the others.

Like many people have commented, I had never considered incorporating blogging into my classroom until this assignment. I think it would be a great homework tool for older students, however since I am an early childhood major I don't see myself using it for this purpose. I do believe it would be a great way to communicate to parents about what is going on in the classroom. I also think it is a great way for them to give feedback and opinions that they normally may not give in other situations.

I think blogging is a very cool tool. This was my first time ever blogging, and I really got into the assignment. I definitely think that I would only allow other teachers and parents see my blog, unless I had a children friendly blog. Blogging is a great way to let others know what's on your mind, new information you may have learned, lessons your students are learning, and so much more. After making my blog for your class, I actually think I might start one myself.

I love #9 all of the videos have the children explain what they have learned in class and the class is so excited and interactive with blogging. The parents can see what their kids are doing in class and are not left out on their child's learning development by watching the videos. I think its grate that all the kids have their own blogging partner and blog but is connected to the class blog so you can see what they are blogging about.
In Girls Ministry i will probably use blogging to keep in touch and be inspired by the things my girls would do with blogging and share the word of god threw post and inspirational pictures and videos.

I think blogging could be a great way for teachers and parents to communicate. It could also be a great way for teachers and students to communicate depending on the age of the students. I have never used a blog before but after putting this together I could see myself using it. The only problem I could see is parents not looking at the blogs. It would be a waste of time for everyone if the parents didnt bother looking at the blogs that the teachers post.

I am definitely on board with blogging! I think it is a tool that students and teachers would both enjoy utilizing for their class. The best feature would be to get the parents involved and up to speed on the daily goings on of the classroom. It's a quick and easy way for all parties involved to feel connected.

After working on this assignment I can definetly see myself using a blog when I become a teacher. It is an easy and quick way to keep parents informed on what is happening in the classroom. It also provides the parents with an easy way to stay in touch with their child's teacher. I think it is very important to communicate with the parents and blogging is a great way to do that.

At this point and time, I do not think I will be using a blog in my classroom. It can be a good tool to use, if you are willing to keep it up and that everyone has access to the internet. However, I do not know if I would be able to keep it up as some people are able to.

In one of my recent classes, I did a presentation on Learning Logs in the classroom. A learning log is simply just a notebook that students write in daily about what they learned that day, random thoughts, or a place to answer questions that the teacher assigns. I loved the idea of using them in classroom. However, I am now leaning towards the idea of using a Blog instead (Learning (b)log). It's basically the same thing, only it's online! Therefore, teachers, parents, and students can all stay connected. It will be a lot more convenient, an up to date version of the traditional paper learning log/journal.

I really enjoy blogging. It keeps people up to date and aware of what is going on in your life and the lives of others around you.

I've never created a blog before and honestly, was confused on what kind of things I should put on mine. I think using blogs in the classroom could have its ups and downs, though. I think it could be fun for students and parents could see their child's blog which could help them have open communication about school. It could also be helpful for teachers and parents to have communication. Blogs could also have their downside, though. Students may not always say the nicest things to others online. The blogs would need to be monitored if used in the classroom setting.

I think blogging is a great way to stay in contact with friends and family. I think it helps out of state people seem not so far away. I also think there is negative point of blogging. I think in can be used to spy on people and gossip such as social sites.

Blogging is a new trendy way for teachers to communicate with students, parents and fellow faculty. Its perfect for parents who are always busy and cant make personal appearances to the teacher but still desire to be involved and informed. Teachers can share ideas and thoughts about curriculum and other education related issues. Overall, I think its a great tool that will help take education to new heights.

I have been very skeptical of blogging as a classroom tool. I guess because I haven't really seen any classroom application of it yet. I think a lot of people have the idea that blogging is just a place for gossip and bad-mouthing people. But, when uses in the right way, blogging can be a wonderful classroom tool. I know I have followed my friend's blog as she studied abroad in Japan recently, and this was a great way to keep up wtih her and hear all kinds of interesting stories I otherwise might not have heard. Blogging definitely can have its place in the classroom, its just up to the teacher to see that its used properly and to enhance learning.

Blogging can be a good and bad thing. I think it all depends on the students in your classroom. Blogging can be used as a great classroom resource when not abused by others. I think in a college settings it's great but I would be afraid to use it with young children or even high school students because they may post something that would be inappropriate. Also I think students would be able to get by without actually doing their work because they could view other student's blog and see what they have written. Many time students are able to pick up on the students in the classroom who actually do the reading or assignments.

I think it is ok... I know I would probably never do this agian. I'm not the type of person to have online discussions. It was very interesting so I could see why it would be helpful or fun.

I really do like the idea of using a blog for the classroom - I think that if it is used wisely that it can be a great tool. For instance, if a child is shy or does not speak up in class, he/she may be less intimidated to post something online that can help the teacher understand something that the child may be struggling with. The only problem would be that it would have to be monitored closely to ensure the safety of the students.

I think that blogging is a good idea for teachers. I have never really "blogged" before but I enjoy reading other peoples blogs that I know. And I am sure that parents would love to be able to get online and read either a daily or weekly blog from their students teachers to see what they have been doing in class. I think it is an exellent way to stay in touch with parents and can be fun to even help students learn to create one.

I never even would have considered using blogging within the classroom until now. Not only would the blog connect the teacher to the students. It would also build help parent-teacher relationships. I can see a blog being useful for every aspect of the classroom from homework to building relationships amongst students. Parents would also feel more connected to the classroom. We need to have support from the parents in order to push the students to do their best. I think every classroom should have a blog it is a great way to keep everyone involved and connected.

I can see both sides of using blogging in the classroom. I very much like the idea of how interactive it can be with the parents and students! I think it is a great way to keep everyone on the same "page" and also introduce the children to technology. One reason I would not promote blogging is that students can write whatever they want about. I do not always think it is safe. They can post personal information about themselves that may put them in danger. I think I would like to try it in my classroom and see if parents keep in touch or use it!

I am definately going to use blogs in my classroom when I become a teacher. I think they are creative ways to communicate across the board and they have a place in the school setting as long as the teacher knows how to use them and keep them safe for the students. I think that it is also a great way to get feedback from parents as well as other teachers and faculty.

Blogging is very useful because i can be used like D2L. Giving outside instructions that are accessible at any time can be very useful for students.

It is always important to keep in touch with your parents. I think it is very useful for your parents to be able to express their concerns or things that they like.

I do think using blogging in the classroom can be a good thing! It can be used as a subsitute or a supplement to a classroom website, yet it makes it easier for parents to respond back to you as the teacher and other parents as well! Students can also utilize a classroom blog to talk about homework or what is going on in our classroom! I think blogging could be used in a positive way in the classroom if it is monitered frequently.

Blogging can be a great resource for teachers to stay in contact with students, parents, and co-workers. Teachers can definitely create blogs were the students are required to post a response as well as read there classmates blogs and respond to the different comments from their peers as well (just like we’ve been doing in this class all year). Teachers can also encourage students to create their own blogs that relate to the subject matter being discussed in class. It is important for teachers to monitor the blogs and keep the students focused and on track.

I really haven't decided if I would use a blog in my classroom. I think it could be a good and bad thing. It is a great opportunity to talk with parents, students and other teachers, but on the other hand you can't always believe everything you read on a blog. This could alos for false information which could lead to confusion. It will be a while until I taech so I guess I will have to make a decsion by then.

Blogging is a great technological alternative to journaling. I think that it is important to continue using journals in the classroom because it helps with handwriting, but I think that adding blogging would be a great way to practice typing. My thoughts are that blogging is a good tool that should be used in the classroom.

Blogging can be an effective way to allow students, parents, and the teacher the opportunity to connect with one another with 21st century technology. I don't do much blogging right now, but as a future teacher I would consider using it in my classroom. If I used blogging in my classroom, I would want to use a safe, educational, and kid-friendly blogging website. I probably wouldn't rely on blogging for my primary communcation with the parents because not every parent has access to a computer. Blogging in the classroom could be a great way for students to communicate with other students. I'm not sure how effective blogging would be in a 1st or 2nd grade class, though. I would have to try it out with my future class, but overall I like blogging.

I hadn't thought much about blogging before, except when teenagers use it like and online diary. Now, I definitely plan on using blogging in my classroom! I think it would be a great way to keep parents "in the know". With the way it shows past postings, you could give students that have been absent an idea of what they have missed. I don't know yet if I would have my students have their own blog or not. I think the grade level I hope to teach might not utilize it properly. I will use it to communicate with parents and maybe other educators as well.

I really like the idea of blogging in the classroom! I had never really thought about it until taking this class. I think that it can be very positive if used correctly. It is a great communication tool for parents, teachers, and students. All can interact with each other. I enjoyed looking at the classroom websites, they bring great ideas! I think blogging can be used as an activity that the students will enjoy and still incorporate learning.

Blogging is a new and interesting way to bridge the gap between school and everyday life which will ultimately keep the learner more engaged. Students can use the communication skills they relate to most while learning at school. I believe I could use this tool with students as well as parents. With students blogging could be used in group or individual lessons (book discussion or collaborative projects). With parents, it could be used as a communication tool. I would be sure to let them know how often I would check the blog and update it so they would keep checking back. I think we might be surprised how many parents are familiar with this type of communication.

I didn't think blogging in an elementary school would even be an option, but now I see it can be a way to communicate with parents! I enjoyed looking at the elementary school blog and liked how the teacher used it to put up recent activities in the classroom and upcoming news! That way the parents can see what the students are up to and even leave their comments and thoughts on the matter! Blogs are Great!!!!!

When I first started learning about blogs, I thought blogging would only work in the upper grade levels. I plan to teach elementary students and could not see how creating a blog would benefit my classroom. I quickly learned that a blog can be a source of communication between the teacher, parents and even the students. The only problem I see with using a blog in the classroom would be access to a computer in the home. In many rural communities, computers are not available in every home and sometimes not even available in the classroom. As a teacher, I would have to make sure that every student had access to a computer before I started a blog in my classroom. I would never want any of my students to feel left out because their family did not own a computer. I plan on using several of the applications we have learned in this course in my classroom.

I think blogging is great to use in a classroom. I think it is a great up to date, fun way of getting the students active in classroom participation and discussions. As a teacher, I would use it definitely for writing assignments. It will be a great way for students to express themselves and voice their opinions. I also think blogging will be great to keep parents involved and notified on whats going on in the classroom. Parents can ask questions and communicate with other parents and the teacher. I was a little unsure about blogging for the classroom but it was mostly because I was not familiar with blogging. After completing the assignment I felt much more comfortable about classroom blogging. It seems like a very good way to communicate with parents who may not have the kind of time to come in the classroom, or make regular phone calls to a teacher. All they have to do is pull this up while they are at work or anywhere. It allows them to be aware of everything that is going on.
